Elmo Learns about Wearing Masks

With the CDC recommending that folks over the age of 2 years old wear masks when out in public and around other people, children are bound to have a few questions. In this short video, shared on CNN, Elmo asks a doctor his questions and learns how to make his own mask! This video, and others like it can really help children to normalize this strange new experience of wearing, and seeing masks when outside the home during a health crisis.

Things for Learning through Play at Home

Brought to you by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, this app offers the most complete digital field guide specific to North American Birds. You can look up birds by name and learn everything from what they eat, where to live, their nesting habits, their life cycle, and aside from the captivating photos, the most fun feature of this app is listening to each birds songs and calls! This app is free, and invites users to also take part in the backyard bird count and record when and where different birds are spotted in your area! It’s a gem of a resource and we’ve used it regularly in the classroom and at home!

Each day through this period of social distancing, the wonderful team at the Cincinnati Zoo is introducing a new animal friend live and hosting all the videos free on their website! But the fun doesn’t stop there, each animal meet & greet video also comes with a post sharing a fun activity to extend learning.

Our friends over at Love Lab, a beautiful little art studio for children and their families, are offering loads of brilliant and fun art ideas to keep you and the kiddos busy at home. Not only do they make a great follow on Social Media when you’re in search of ideas, but they are working on studio zoom classes for you to participate in while staying home! Give them a follow to find out what they’re up to!

Children love stories, and so a handful of celebrities got together and recorded themselves reading picture books for our young friends at home! Check out lots of your favorites, and explore loads of new books as well. It’s always fun to hear a well-read story, and who better (besides you parents!) than Hollywood’s best to give a solid dramatic reading…
